Rev. Sandra Morgan Messick was born and raised near San Diego, CA. She received her B.A. in Speech  Communication from San Diego State University in 1985. After moving to the Midwest, she attended Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, receiving her Master of Divinity Degree, cum laude, in 1990. During seminary she met and married her husband, Tom. Sandy was ordained in Dec. 1989 at her home church, Vista La Mesa Christian Church in La Mesa, CA. Since then she has served congregations in Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Washington. Her publications include a sermon in Bread Afresh, Wine Anew: Sermons by Disciples Women (1991), “Partners in Prayer,” Advent Devotional Booklet, (1999) and various church school curricula published through Christian Board of Publication (1997-2003).

Since moving to the Northwest Region nearly 10 years ago she has served as Pastor at North Hill Christian Church in Spokane and Interim Pastor at University Christian Church in Seattle. Sandy has actively supported the Regional transformation process (RISE) serving on the Coordinating Team, Vision Panel, Resources Design Team and Writing Team.  Committed to congregational transformation, she has also participated in both the Journey of Discovery and New Beginnings programs working with several churches around the Region. She has earned a Certificate in Transitional Ministry from the Interim Ministry Network and a Certificate in Leadership and Church Management from Whitworth College. When asked what excites her most about the emerging vision and goals for the Region she cited “the emphasis on building connections with congregations, embracing the diversity of our Region and members, and the commitment to pouring ourselves out in mission.”

Sandy's husband, Tom, is Director of Operations and Blue Card Executive for Premera Blue Cross. They live in the Mukilteo area, north of Seattle, with their two children, Sarah (15) and John (11).
